NLMWA
About NLMWA
A women-led charity that has served North Lanarkshire for over thirty years — listening first, then building the sessions and support the neighbourhood asks for.
Who we are
North Lanarkshire Muslim Women and Family Alliance is a community charity run by the women it serves. We started as a small group of mothers looking for somewhere safe to meet, and grew into a programme of classes, support and celebrations that hundreds of families use every year.
We are a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation, registered charity SC045588, and our home base is Airdrie & Coatbridge Islamic Centre, 41 Bell Street, Airdrie, ML6 0BS.
What we do

Family support
Confidential help with benefits, housing, school and health — and someone to listen.
Family support
Learning and skills
English, Urdu, Arabic and digital classes for women, children and families.
Learning

Community and culture
Eid and iftar celebrations, heritage projects, trips and coffee mornings.
CultureHow we are run
A board of trustees sets our direction and holds the charity to account. Around it, an operations group and themed sub-committees do the work — education, finance, advocacy, catering and events, befriending and partnerships — with volunteers leading most sessions.
Our ambition
We want a permanent home for this work: a centre in North Lanarkshire where any woman or family can walk in, learn, and be supported. That is the goal we are raising funds and building partnerships towards.
