Creating inclusive spaces where women and families from all backgrounds can grow, connect, and thrive.

Background

The North Lanarkshire Muslim Women and Family Alliance (NLMWA) was established in 1994 with the objective of helping Muslim women and their families integrate with the wider community. The goal was to provide individuals with the opportunity to meet, study and promote understanding within their own religion and culture – and beyond.

We believe that true integration is not about assimilation but about mutual respect, shared learning, and community cohesion. Our journey is one of listening, adapting, and growing always with the aim of building a more inclusive, compassionate, and connected society.

who we are

NLMWA is a community-based organisation led by women, for women and families. We were founded to respond to the unique challenges faced by minority ethnic communities, particularly Muslim women, in North Lanarkshire. Our work is rooted in compassion, cultural understanding, and collective strength. We believe that empowering women leads to stronger families, healthier communities, and a more inclusive society for everyone.

our mission

To empower women and families through inclusive services, learning opportunities, and community connection, with a focus on cultural awareness and wellbeing.

our vision

A North Lanarkshire where every woman and family feels safe, valued, supported, and able to thrive, regardless of background, language, or faith.

our values

Inclusion: We welcome everyone with dignity and respect.

Empowerment: We build confidence, skills, and leadership in women and youth.
